Amid of the global economy downturn, Indonesia is experiencing vice-verse. November last year my friend and I went to Medan by driving for about 12 hours from Banda Aceh to dispatch my friend's car to Jakarta from Medan trough a local cargo company which my friend contacted trough internet searching. From here I started think about cargo investment. Once we arrived in Medan, we have to find out the address as mentioned in the internet. We were spending time for about an hour to find the address of the cargo company. As a cargo company we thought it might be stationed at an office premise. Surprisingly it was heading toward Medan city outskirt. Finally we arrived at the block of the address, it was residential!. We slowly entered the block by dividing responsibility; my friend while driving was responsible for looking at the address on right side while I myself was responsible for left side.
Eventually my friend was telling me that there is no cargo company to send his car directly from Banda Aceh to Jakarta, I was again starting to look at investment opportunity in cargo business. It is obvious that without research, Acehnese confirmed that Aceh, especially Banda Aceh today is better in comparing before the tsunami 2004. Physical changing clearly observable trough number of cars on the road. Traffic flow slowly but sure have been starting having congestion in the morning and after office hour, even almost for the whole day for business spots.
Tabloid Tabangun Aceh, Aceh government official newsletter reported that Aceh government is targeting Aceh Economic Growth for 2012 is between 6 - 6.5%. Although Aceh seems to be having difficulty in attracting investment, particularly there is still some security issues in facing the upcoming local election for governor and head of districts. But being experienced conflict for about 30 years, Aceh now indeed enjoy peace. Coffee shops or locally called Keude Kupi always full of customers days and nights!. Coffee shops business launched here and there. Aceh government is trying hard to attract investment in amid of some criminal with political related incident recently. Its is only best investor who really risk taker invested in Aceh. One of them is Hermes Tamrin owner of Hotel Hermes who eagerly convince other investors to invest in Aceh by opening Hermess Mall and Matahari in Banda Aceh. It is challenging for investor that there are a lot of opportunity in Aceh.
My office sometime used to have meeting in Sabang or internationally famous as Weh Island. I observed that there is website providing information for boat and ferry to Sabang, unfortunately the was no response from the number I dialed to book ticket for the boat. Another thing is I also found that we still unable to drive from mainland to Sabang straight from home or hotel to ferry say a few minutes before sailing. The car have to be loaded onto the ferry the night before departure!, this is not efficient and still hampering tourism industry. A local friend of me just started a travel business which also targeting tourism, as a friend I procured air ticket at his office, unfortunately still far away from even national standard service. It is also common that some of my friend sharing their experience with hospitals. A lady friend once telling me her experience while her five years daughter was hospitalized due to serious injury. She was fed up with the doctor whom suppose to treat children with gentle and full of caring, what she got was unexpectedly, the doctor instead angry with crying children. I even once accompanying my friend whom hospitalized have to be moved from her room at ground floor to third floor with stretcher!. It seem service sector is opening huge investment opportunity in Aceh. Lets think positively and grasp those chances!.
